Credit Cards & Mortgage Rates: Let Your Computer Do The Leg Work
While it seems like the credit card promotions game is an endless circus of seemingly too good to be true freebies and teaser rates, resources do exist on the web to help consumers make sense of the situation. I’ve been using MSN’s Credit Card Analyzer service before applying for a card with much success.
The system is very user-friendly, highlighting the range of APR for most of the major cards listed and the average rate of the week. Once you dig deeper into the chart actual rate, annual fees (if any), introductory rate (and period), and actions required to apply are all given. The service is free for anyone to use and can come in really handy when swimming in a sea of possible choices.
The Credit Card Analyzer can be reached directly by clicking here.
While we’re on the topic, MSN also offers a convenient Mortgage Analyzer which is updated daily. This helpful chart provides the national average APR on a variety of products (from 30 year fixed rate mortgages to 1 year adjustables). Savvy investors will rely upon such information to determine the best time to make an investment. The rest of us can keep track of current rates so as to compare our own mortgages with the market trends. A dip in mortgage rates may indicate a time to refinance; especially for ARM holders looking for the stability of a fixed rate.
