Three Tax Mistakes to Avoid

In the past we talked about one of the biggest tax mistakes you can make: paying too much. While paying too much is definitely a problem you want to avoid, there are other common mistakes lurking around every corner.

Here are three tax mistakes that you will want to avoid at all costs.

1. Not keeping accurate records could harm you big time in the end. Even though you may get away with not having all the records you need, such as receipts, if you get audited you are going to be in for some big time trouble. Do yourself a favor and set aside all your tax information in one area. This way, when filing time comes around you will know just where to look.

2. Have you ever been tempted to stretch the truth when filing your taxes? If so, you are not alone. But when it comes to tax mistakes, this is one of the worst. Not only is lying immorally wrong, but it could cost you a lot of money and time in the long run.

3. As you probably know, tax evasion is punishable by imprisonment. This means that if you do not pay your taxes and get caught, you are going to end up in more trouble than you ever thought possible. Sure, it would be nice to not have to pay taxes, but it is not worth the huge risk that could result in jail time.

These three tax mistakes should be avoided no matter who you are. As long as you keep them in mind throughout the year, when it comes time to file all your paperwork you should be in a good position.
