Tax Refunds & Advice

You need a Day or more to file your Taxes

If you do your own taxes, listen up. There is no possible reason to attempt to jam all of this work into a small time frame. When it comes down to it, you need at least one day in order to file your taxes. This holds true no matter if you are dealing with your year end return or quarterly taxes for your business. If you do not give yourself enough time, you are sure to make a mistake here or there.

Simply put, there are too many papers to fill out and details to keep organized. When you begin to rush, you will find out that little mistakes are being made and that you are also forgetting to take on certain tasks. While you may be able to backtrack and correct any mistakes, this can lead to issues if you do not find each and every one. And with the complexity of almost every tax situation, it is much better to do things right the first time around.

Generally speaking, if you give yourself at least one day to work on your taxes, you should be fine. This means that you need at least five or so hours to get organized, start the process, and then double check your work. While you may think that this is more than enough time, soon enough you may see that you need another day to tie up the loose ends. Many people start their taxes thinking that it will be a quick process, but then find out soon enough that this is not the case.

Any time that you are filing tax related paperwork, you need to give yourself plenty of time.
