And even then, you never know exactly what you are going to get.

Believe it or not, even the big name commercial tax companies are not always accurate 100 percent of the time. Remember, the people working for these firms are human, just like you. Sure, they know more about filing tax returns, but even then they are prone to mistakes if not careful.

On the other side of things, you may turn to a CPA for help. The problem with doing this is that you do not know how long they have been in business, or whether or not they stand behind their work.

So how can you avoid mistakes by your tax professional? The best way to do this is to speak with several advisors before you hire one. Ask questions such as: how long have you been in the business? Do you stand behind your work? If I am audited, will you assist me in solving the problem?

Although being afraid of your tax advisor is a common fear, it does not have to be. Remember, once you find a good advisor, you should hold onto him or her for dear life. This way, you do not have to worry about this problem every tax season.
