File for your Free Money

image-5-32808.gifIf you want to receive an economic stimulus payment this summer, you need to file a tax return for 2007. This holds true for those who usually file a return, as well as those who are not normally required to do so. This includes retirees, disabled veterans, and low income individuals. Although you need to file in order to receive your payment, you are not required to do so if the money is of no interest to you. Of course, this would be silly. After all, how often does the IRS send out free money?

In order to help individuals who do not usually file, the IRS has decided to open several offices. This will allow individuals who do not usually file to receive professional help with submitting Form 1040A. This is the form that has been designated for those who are only filing to receive an economic stimulus payment.

Starting in May, payments will be sent to more than 100 million individuals. The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 is meant to inject life into a struggling United States economy that is spiraling downward.

Taxpayers who already filed a return for 2007 do not have to take any further action. Instead, all they need to do is sit back and wait for their check.

All in all, in order to receive this free money from the IRS, you must file a tax return. With the help of a local IRS office, those who usually don’t file should be able to get the necessary help. For further information, contact the IRS office in your area to see if this service is available.

Three Ways to use your Tax Rebate

image-4-32608.jpgThis year, millions of people will be receiving a tax rebate from the IRS. To go along with this, just as many will receive an economic stimulus rebate as well. As you can imagine, there are many ways that you can spend this money. The question is: how are you going to proceed? When it comes down to it, you want to be smart when it comes to using your tax rebate.

Here are three common ways to use your tax rebate(s) when it arrives in your mailbox in a few months:

1. Save, save, save. If you do not know what to spend your rebate on, why not put it in the bank? Although this is not the fun thing to do, it is always nice to have some extra cash in the bank.

2. Pay down debt. This is just as boring as putting the money in the bank, but it can be a great way to spend your tax rebate. When you pay down debt you will be able to relieve some of the pressure on your finances, while also avoiding costly interest charges.

3. Buy something that you have had your eye on. Do you want a flat screen television for your game room? How about a new outfit? There is nothing wrong with spending your tax rebate on something frivolous. After all, it is your money to do with what you please.

You can use your tax rebate and/or economic stimulus check in a number of different ways. Just remember to be smart with this money. It is not often that you get a check from the IRS!

Plan for next Tax Season Today

image-3-32408.jpgDid you recently file your taxes for 2007? If so, there is no time to wait when it comes to getting organized for next year. The longer you wait to do this, the more difficult it is going to become when you finally decide to move forward. The biggest mistake that you can make is waiting until the beginning of 2008 to attempt to get your tax information in place.

There are several things that you can do in order to start the planning process off on the right foot. First and foremost, did anything go wrong with your taxes this year? If so, you need to make sure that you protect against this during the upcoming year. For instance, if you did not pay enough tax during 2007, you should find out how to make a positive change this year. If you do not protect against the mistakes you made last year, you are bound to repeat them this year.

Staying organized month in and month out is also crucial. Make sure that you are filing your pays stubs, keeping receipts, and staying on track if you are in charge of making your own tax payments. Obviously, the way that you stay organized will be based largely on the type of job that you have. If you are self-employed you will spend much more time organizing and dealing with taxes on a regular basis.

You should always plan for next years tax season as soon as possible. The work that you put in now will pay off when you sit down with your tax professional early in 2008.
