Tax Rebates have arrived

image-11-42908.jpgFor many months, there has been non-stop talk of the economic stimulus checks that were set to be sent to millions of Americans this summer. The time has finally come, and much to the surprise of many, rebates are being sent out earlier than expected. The first group of payments is set to be sent on Monday April 28, 2008. Many who will be receiving their payment via direct deposit will see the money in their account on this Monday. Paper checks will begin being sent on May 9, one week earlier than previously announced.

This extra cash is meant to help the millions of Americans who are currently struggling with higher costs of gas and food, as well as many other economic related issues that have become a major burden. The IRS has said that all checks will be sent to those who qualify no later than July 11. This holds true both for direct deposit payments and paper checks.

The biggest benefit of these payments is that Americans do not have to pay it back, or take a hit on their next tax refund. Instead, this is “free money” that can be used any way you see fit. With that being said, the government is hoping that the majority of people put this money back into the economy. They would much rather see the money being spent on big screen televisions and other similar items instead of on bills or savings. Of course, it is safe to say that many people will keep this money for the time being.

Many months ago, most consumers doubted that these checks would ever be sent. But sure enough the time has come, and the first batch of payments are on there way to save the economy!

With a Struggling Economy, Consumers asked to Spend Stimulus Check

image-10-42508.jpgAs you know by now, millions of Americans will be receiving an economic stimulus payment from the IRS by the end of the summer. If you take a closer look at the phrase “economic stimulus check” what do you see? Simply put, the government wants you to spend this money to stimulate the economy. In other words, if everybody who receives a check puts it into the bank and does nothing, the results will be a total flop. Of course, this is far from realistic. But with that being said: how many people are really going to spend this payment on frivolous items when there are more important expenses to be taken care of?

With the economy struggling, more and more consumers are finding themselves in trouble due to job losses, cut backs, and the rising cost of items such as gasoline and food. For this reason, it is safe to say that these people will be taking their economic stimulus payment and using it in a more practical manner.

There is no way for the government or IRS to regulate how this money is spent. They have decided that this is the best way to stimulate the economy, and with the first checks due to be sent out within the next month or so, early results will be available soon enough. It is there hopes that these payments will not only boost the economy, but also create hundreds of thousands of jobs for out of work Americans.

It is your choice on how to spend the economic stimulus payment that you will be receiving in the near future. While the government wants you to splurge on a big screen television, you are within your rights to save this money or use it to pay down debt. So what will it be?

How does your Tax Professional Stack Up?

image-9-42308.jpgDo you hire a tax professional to file your year end return? If so, you are just like millions of other taxpayers. Unfortunately, not every tax professional is as qualified as the next. As you can imagine, you only want to rely on somebody who knows exactly what they are doing. After all, filing your income tax is no joke. You cannot afford mistakes that will cost you money, or worse yet, send the IRS after you.

How can you compare your tax professional to others in your area? First and foremost, you will want to consider the fee that they charge you. This is important because you do not want to spend more than you have to for tax preparation. While fees vary, it is obvious when a tax professional is trying to exploit consumers for as much money as possible.

Moving on, check on the credentials of a tax professional before you decide to work with them. Ask each professional you speak with about their credentials, experience, and educational background. If this is information that they do not want to share, you can easily move on and find somebody who is more open and honest.

Finally, you should always check for mistakes; no matter who prepares your tax return. Every year, hundreds of thousands of returns prepared by professionals are flagged with errors by the IRS. As you can see, your tax professional may not be as perfect as you thought.

It is important to choose a tax professional that is experienced, offers reasonable pricing, and works error free. When you find somebody who fits this mold, you will be able to confidently rely on them year in and year out.
