CB&S Bank was founded by William H. Key, Sr., Charles E. Wilson, and Foster Gavin to focus on farmers’ unmet needs and town merchants in Russellville, Alabama. Along with other investors, the bank’s founders pulled together $25,000 in seed money and incorporated the bank as Citizens Bank and Savings Company on February 28, 1906.
The bank opened its doors on March 3, 1906, with a vision to provide extraordinary service to the region’s people, staking its growth on the region’s growth.
In 2000, CB&S Bank entered the Mississippi market, and in 2006, it expanded into Tennessee. On March 3, 2008, Citizens Bank officially changed its name to CB&S Bank.
